Preventive Care
Preventive care is the first step to a long, healthy and happy life for your pet. Yearly examinations, vaccinations, parasitic prevention and surgical neutering are the best line of defense against disease and health issues.
We use and recommend Pfizer vaccinations and quality products such as Heartgard Plus, Revolution, Advantage and Frontline Plus to ensure continued health for your dog or cat.
Below are guidelines to your pet’s care, according to age, to help you determine when to schedule exams and what can be expected at the exam. Call our friendly customer service staff to schedule your pet's exam today!
CANINES
Puppy care - 8 weeks to 16 weeks:
- Physical examination
- Intestinal de-worming
- Depending on their monthly age, vaccines to protect against common diseases at 3- to 4-week intervals
- Bordetella vaccine
- Leptospirosis vaccine if puppy has access to areas where wildlife may be present
- Rabies vaccine at 16 weeks of age
- Discuss heartworm prevention
- Begin flea/tick prevention
- Microchip for your pet's protection and safe return
- Spay or neuter at 4-6 months of age
- Discuss proper socialization, interaction and activities for your puppy
- Enroll in a puppy class
Adult care - 1 to 6 years
- Physical examination
- Vaccinations for bordetella, rabies, DHPP, leptospirosis
Heartworm blood test and administration of preventive treatments
- Administer flea/tick control
- Dental exam and/or periodontal probing
- Consultation on diet, weight, dental health and/or behavior concerns
- Annual wellness blood panel
- Fecal analysis
- Urinalysis
Senior care - 7-plus years
- Physical examination (twice a year may be recommended)
- Vaccinations
- Orthopedic exam
- Eye pressure exam
- Blood pressure exam
- Geriatric blood panel to check internal organs such as kidney and liver disease and thyroid function
- Ear exam
- Dental exam
- Urinalysis
- Diet consultation
- If on chronic medications such as thyroid supplement, arthritis, Phenobarbital; kidney and liver screen at 6-month intervals
FELINES
Kitten care - 8 weeks to 16 weeks:
- Physical examination
- Intestinal de-worming
- Respiratory (Distemper) vaccine at 3-4 week intervals; 3 sets(PFVRC-C)
- Leukemia/FIV test if outdoor cat
- Leukemia vaccine at 3-4 week intervals; 2 sets
- Rabies vaccine at 16 weeks
- Microchip for their protection and safe return
- Spay or neuter at 4-6 months of age
- Discuss indoor cat activity, interaction and entertainment options
- Discuss heartworm prevention
- Discuss flea/tick prevention
Adult care - 1 to 6 years
- Physical examination
- Vaccinations
- Intestinal parasite check
- Dental exam
- Discussion regarding heartworm prevention
Discussion of flea/tick control
- Dental exam and/or periodontal probing
