Tell Us Your Pet's Story

Grace
This is Grace, she is a new addition to the Pend Oreille Veterinary Service family. Most days you will see her hanging out with her "mom" in the reception area. She was found abandoned at our Pet Park this summer. She was skinny, scared and no one knew where she came from. She was brought into the clinic where she was fed while waiting to go to the animal shelter.
While she was with us, she was walked and played with by the whole staff, but took an immediate attachment to Denise, responding to her voice and wanting to be near her. Denise had lost her old companion unexpectedly in early spring and wasn't ready to "look" for a dog, but this one seemed to "find" her.
Five days later, after getting her spayed and vaccinated, Denise took her home. She has adjusted well, enjoying her new home and family, she loves to romp and play with her "boy" and her cat, although the cat is sometimes less than enthusiastic about Grace's play time!
After being with Denise for a few weeks it was found she had been shot at some point in her past with a pellet gun, a few of those pellets were bothering her so Dr. Fineman took them out. Since then she has been in marvelous health, gaining weight and becoming more social, although she is still fearful of some people, especially those that approach her. She is more comfortable when she is allowed time and space to approach people. She, and her "mom", are undergoing some helpful training to get past Grace's fears.
Grace may be fearful of new people, but she loves dogs; especially puppies. She has been known to climb over the counter at the clinic to say hi to a puppy! Grace is most happy when she is playing with another animal; big or small, she adjusts her play to the size of the animal. So when you are visiting the clinic stop by and say hi, but don't forget to give her some time and space!
Makaia Mele
Miss Makaia Mele was lawfully obtained from a run-down corner store in 2003, looking like a little white piglet with sad eyes and a droopy tail. Miss Makaia has come a very long way from life in a trash bin.
She is a Staffordshire Terrier who now lives with 3 pitbull siblings. These require socialization, patience, love and most of all interaction. She has since helped rehabilitate over 15 pitbulls that now have great homes.
She is no stranger to Pend Oreille Veterinary Service, having donated blood to many patients in crisis, has had both knees operated on due to a ruptured ACL and an orthopedic surgery due to a broken leg. She also enjoys participating in clinic life, dressing up for costume contests, socializing with staff and clients, she even gets to demonstrate how ultrasonography works!
She seems to enjoy being a wonderful mascot for her breed and has brought so much joy in the life of Mya, her rescuer. "She reminds me that you must have discipline and dominance to balance your unconditional love for a "bully" breed."
So if you see Miss Makaia and Mya out and about, tell them hello and you might get Makaia to turn pink...she blushes!

Rikki
Rikki was given to Christa a few years ago, from her mom. This little guy needed to find a home and her mom just happened to be at the right place at the right time! Christa was looking for a small companion and when this one came into the clinic in search of a home her mom knew extactly who to call! Rikki adjusted well to his new home and loves to act like Christa's great big protector! He has had a few dental issues, as most smaller dogs do, but Dr. Smart has worked with Christa to help with this issue. He has dental cleanings and fun treats and products to keep his mouth healthy. You might see him from time to time in the reception area...so say hi!
Earl
Stephanie had always wanted an Irish Wolfhound and the time was finally right, for her at least. 2 months of "conversation" and "persuasion" the boyfriend was the final hurdle after locating a breeder in South Dakota. Stephanie went without chocolates and flowers to spend a cold Valentine's Day weekend traveling to pick him up! The drive was definitely worth it! Earl has been a wonderful companion, source of great humor and topic of many conversations! His ever-increasing size and "goofiness" has given joy and laughs to all that meet him
